Choosing and Using Foundation

First, decide how much coverage you need. Sheer foundations are good for a light natural coverage. Moderate coverage is a good choice for those of us with some discoloration, a few acne scars, or some freckles. Full coverage foundations offer the most camouflaging that is good for covering burns, birthmarks, bruising, and scars.

The best place to test the color of a foundation is the side of your face between your cheek and jaw line. Your goal when you apply the foundation on the lower part of your face is to find the color that appears the same shade as your neck. During summer months you may want to go a shade darker.

Caucasian women have a tendency toward red pigmentation in the face, which is why they flush and their skin can become red and blotchy. A foundation with some yellow pigment is good to balance out the redness.

African American women tend to have oilier skin, which can turn the foundation darker than it first looked on the skin. Choose shades a bit lighter than the skin and stay with shades with warm honey tones. Avoid overly yellow or olive shades, since they will turn ashy and grey after application.

Mediterranean, Latin, and Asian women have a more olive tone to their skin. Olive/beige/neutral toned foundations with a yellow undertone work best.

Applying Foundation
When applying foundation, don’t forget your eyelids, in the corners of your nose and over your lips. The end goal when applying makeup to the face is to make the color tones of the face match your neck.

After applying foundation, simply blot with a tissue if you feel there is too much. This will eliminate excess oil or moisture from the foundation.

When using thick concealer as foundation, it is important to set it with powder. It will keep the foundation from running, creasing, or smudging. It will also prevent it from cracking into any lines around the eyes. This process will also work to cover areas with acne scars.

To keep the foundation looking fresh and natural, follow with a light dusting of a translucent loose powder using a powder brush set the foundation.

The fastest solution for dark circles is to apply concealer. Choose a gold-based color that matches your skin shade exactly (the gold will counter-act the blue of the under eye circles).

The most common mistake made when applying concealer is choosing a color that's too light. Another common problem is putting the concealer only under the eye. You should apply it all around the eye area, and be sure to blend well. Set the concealer with a light dusting of translucent face powder. To avoid drawing unwanted attention to your under eye area, do not apply eyeliner or mascara to your lower lashes.

Apply a white shimmer pencil to the inner corner of the eye, as that is often the darkest part.

Priscilla's ageless beauty secrets

For being 60+ years old, she looks great! I did notice that she is very pale...and don't think she's denied plastic surgery, but still... Anyways, she'll also be seen on Dancing with the Stars next season.

From Priscilla Presley's own website:
Explore your body and get in touch with all aspects of yourself. Find the exercise that works best for you. I like mixing lightweight training and yoga. I have found that through my own experience, that heavyweight training builds muscle for me. Lightweight training tones and lengthens me. With yoga, it’s a balance of strengthening, toning and relaxing at the same time. This combination of light weight training and yoga have made a real difference for me. Find your exercise regime, which may be a combination of disciplines, and stick with it!

Make-up shouldn't be used to mask your flaws, but to enhance your best features. Walk into natural light with a mirror after applying make-up to see what the world will see. Don't let the magazines dictate your look by season. Find a look that you feel comfortable with as long as it’s modern and not a look that can date you, always stay current and comfortable.

Women have a sense of adventure for many things, but sometimes they stick with a hairstyle they had when they were at their 'best'. Fashion isn't about vanity - it's about living life in the present, with vibrancy. Be modern, be bold, be yourself.

Courtney Cox' skin and hair secrets

I had to dig this one up. If you've ever watched Friends and Family Ties, you'll notice the beautiful actress Courtney Cox has the most amazing complexion and shiniest hair! Her piercing blue eyes with her dark strands go so well together.

1. Healthy, glowing skin is an important part of her look, so before applying any makeup be sure to use a hydrating moisturizer and eye cream. Apply a stick foundationto the skin by dotting lightly on the cheeks, forehead, nose and chin, and blend with your fingertips for a sheer, natural finish.

To conceal under the eyes, use a stick foundation one shade lighter than your all-over color. Set the look by applying a little loose powder only under the eyes and down the center of the face.

2. To define the brow, use a brow brush to apply a warm brown shade to the eyebrow. Focus the color on areas where the brow is sparse.

3. Using a shading brush, apply matte white shadow all over the eyelid. Use a shadow brush to apply a silvery shimmer to the lid, starting at the lash line and working into the crease. As a final touch, apply a soft gray shadow very lightly to the crease only and blend well.

4. To line the eyes, use a damp eyeliner brush and apply a charcoal shadow to both the top and bottom lashes. You want the eye to be completely lined from corner to corner. Apply thickening mascara to both the top and bottom lashes.

5. Warm the cheeks using a gel stick blush. Smile to find the apples of your cheeks. Apply color to this area, then use your fingertips to blend back and down over the cheekbones.

6. Apply a cream lipgloss in a warm maple color using a lip brush. Finish by lightly outlining your natural contour with a liner in a similar color to define and enhance the mouth.

7. To give your cheeks a modern high shine, warm a small amount of moisture balm between your fingers and gently tap along the cheekbones. The look is hydrated and glowing, not greasy.

To get the shiny tresses, all you need is a blow-dryer, flat iron, and a dollop of shine pomade! Also, the gleam in Courteney's hair is due to long layers and the moisturizing formulas of her hair-care products. Deep-conditioning once a month is a must. Cox's favorite: Kerastase Nutritive Nutradefense ($65), a mask rich in strengthening proteins. Before blow-drying, part your hair in half, apply a golf-ball-size amount of conditioning mousse to each side, and comb through. Try Kerastase Mousse Nutri-Sculpt. Next, use a paddle brush to blow-dry; increase shine by aiming the airflow downward from roots to ends. Finish with Logics Shine Illuminating serum ($17; logicshair.com) to smooth flyaways.

Instant Abs - No Excercise Required

Another celebrity secret - yes, we know they use self tanners or bronzers to look instantly tanned. Did you know many use the tanners to create body contour and toning effects?

First, lay a strip of tape down the middle of the stomach. Then place three pieces on each side of the middle tape.Spray with DHA  (sunless tanner) wait 20 minutes and then remove tape

Make sure to be careful with the tape marks, but they will fade and blend over time. You can also try using a stencil or eyeliner to outline the abdominal muscles.

Blooming Spring Colors

Latest beauty trends for Spring:

Lilac and Silver Eyes
Layered shades of amethyst and silver create a cool ethereal effect.

Mushroom Shadow

Indigo (blue) Liner
Deep blue liner is a fresh alternative to standard black. The rich color is vibrant, but less harsh.

Peach Lips
Peach lips instantly brighten the entire face. Try a peach lip gloss—its texture and shine come across as softer and more natural than lipstick.

This matte stain—like the one you get from sipping red wine—is a softer way to wear red.

Icy Accents
These pale, shimmery hues have the right amount of color and gleam.

Rose on the apples of the cheeks—with a swipe of bronzey blush in the hollows—adds natural-looking depth, warms up the face, and looks refined.

Finding the best hair color for your skin tone

Apologies for the lack of posts... work has been busy! I did manage to find an interesting tip on selecting hair color that'll make you look great!

Knowing your skin tone is very important in helping you choose the best hair color to make you sizzle. The first thing you should determine is whether your skin tone is warm or cool.

One way to tell is to check the color of our veins. If they appear more blue then the have cool tones, if green then you have warm tones.

Another way to determine your tone is to drape 2 scarves next to your face - a blue and an orange one. Whichever ones looks best determines your tone(blue means you're cool, orange means you're warm)
